A Summary of The Haitian Mission:
Summit Woods first teamed up in 2003 with the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission in St. Louis du Nord. The ministry opportunities there have been quite varied, but have always included a medical team and an eye surgery team amongst others. The church has contributed significantly to many mission construction projects. Summit Woods has also been involved in distribution of food to the poor and preparing meals for onsite teams.
The mission is in a very isolated part of the impoverished island of Haiti, which is recognized as the poorest country in the entire western hemisphere. The Summit Woods team joins part in a national effort to provide eye care to the people of this area passing out glasses, treating glaucoma, and performing cataract surgeries. The church has also been an integral part in the vision and subsequent construction of an Eye Clinic building on the mission grounds. The building was needed in order to handle the increasing number of Haitians coming to the mission for care. Summit Woods has also been actively involved in the professional outfitting of the clinic. The church has also brought other services to the mission over the years, including several dental teams using the existing facilities available at the mission. Many have served in the mission’s Birthing Center and Orphanage, which are very active sites. The mission has a center for severely handicapped children called Heaven’s Waiting Room, which is always an area of need.
No special skills are necessary to serve on this team except the desire to share Christ’s love in an adverse environment.
